Every IV dose is recorded the moment its label is printed — patient and file number, drug, dose and fluid, with the concentration and rate calculated and the use-by date worked out from the compounding time. The system requires a central line for potassium above 0.1 mmol/mL, forces dextrose for amphotericin, and asks a second pharmacist to check.

The system stops an order that has no clearance to dose carboplatin from, keeps a patient's lifetime anthracycline total across cycles, and will not let the person who made a bag sign as the one who checked it.

A running watch on the pharmacy store — 1,242 lines from the warehouse list together with the expensive medication list — comparing what is on the shelf against the minimum and the reorder point, and flagging at once whatever has run out or is close to it. Stock counts are opened and recorded inside the system, the difference between expected and counted shows as the count is typed, and high-cost items come round every month instead of every quarter.

Decision support for antibiotic choice: it starts from the diagnosis, the severity and the risk factors and gives the recommended empirical regimen; once the culture is back it measures the organism against what the patient is actually on and says whether it is covered, and why not. 48 agents, 36 organisms and 25 clinical syndromes, with renal dose adjustment, an AUC-guided vancomycin calculator, procalcitonin interpretation, and the 48-hour review at which a prescription is narrowed or stopped.
